On Wednesday, a revitalised Tunisia defeated a largely backup-filled France team to earn a notable victory.

The North Africans' 1-0 victory over the defending champions was insufficient for them to advance to the World Cup knockout rounds.

In order to advance, Tunisia needed to defeat France, who had already qualified, and hoped that Denmark wouldn't lose to Australia in the other Group D match

When French-born Wahbi Khazri dribbled into the area in the 58th minute and slipped the ball past backup goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, Tunisia earned their third victory in 18 games at the championships.

Khazri claimed that Tunisia was completing its World Cup campaign with a "bittersweet sensation" after beating France but also being devastated by the results of the other group match.

Kadri remarked, "Unfortunately, we are out of the competition, but we also exited the game with a great deal of dignity and honour. "We've been able to play quite efficiently,"

Early on, Tunisia also presented a danger when Nader Ghandri attempted to flick the ball into the goal from a free kick but the action was flagged for offside.

The atmosphere in the stands was hostile from the beginning, with some Tunisian fans at Education City whistling during the playing of the French national anthem prior to kick off.

The goal by the Tunisian captain spurred the French to action, as Deschamps brought in superstars like Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann to spark an underwhelming attack.

Mbappe and Griezmann gave the French a boost, and Tunisia's decision to hold back in an effort to protect their victory also helped.
