Gallagher best known for his watermelon-smashing comedy died at age 76.

He died Friday morning according to his manager Craig Marquardo.

The comedian died after a short health battle and passed away surrounded by his family in palm springs, California.

Gallagher the first comedy stand up special ever to air on cable television, ‘An uncensored Evening’.

Gallagher most famous hand-made sledge hammer he called the ‘Sledge-O-Matic’, which he would use to smash food on stage, spraying the audience.

According to Craig Marquardo, his former manager, the cause was multiple organ failure. He said that Gallagher had experienced "several" heart attacks
